Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup is regarded as one of the best in his field, according to his long-time associate Anis Ben Slimane.
The two first crossed paths during Slimane’s early teenage years when Thorup was an academy coach at Akademisk Boldklub, a small club in Gladsaxe. Their paths converged again last summer when Slimane joined Norwich on loan from Sheffield United, later making the move permanent.
The 23-year-old midfielder credits Thorup as a key factor in his decision to join the Canaries, highlighting the 36-year-old’s strong reputation in Denmark.
“I was probably 12 or 13 years old when I first met Johannes,” Slimane recalled. “But I didn’t work with him for long because he moved to FC Nordsjaelland. I think it was just for a pre-season.
“We mainly got to know each other from playing against Nordsjaelland many times. Even back then, Johannes was recognized as a coaching talent at both AB and Nordsjaelland. Seeing where he is now isn’t a surprise to anyone in Denmark. He’s a really good coach who understands the game incredibly well.
“Football moves fast, and now we’re working together, which I really enjoy.”
Slimane appreciates how Thorup’s tactical philosophy aligns with his own playing style. He believes Norwich’s approach is similar to Nordsjaelland’s, making it a great fit for him and an attractive prospect for potential signings.
“For me, this is how football should be played,” he told the Pink Un. “I really enjoy it because it suits my strengths perfectly.
“I’m sure other players are drawn to this style as well. Everyone wants to be involved, create chances, and score goals.”
