Celtic and Wolfsburg Eye Hibs Forward Élie Youan
Celtic and Wolfsburg are both reportedly keeping a close watch on Hibernian forward Élie Youan, according to a new report.
Ivorian football outlet 225foot claims that the German Bundesliga side and the reigning Scottish Premiership champions are monitoring Youan’s situation at Easter Road. The French-born attacker is under contract until the end of the 2025/26 season and has consistently drawn transfer interest from clubs in England, France, and Italy.
The report suggests Wolfsburg, currently four points away from the European qualification spots in Germany’s top flight under manager Ralph Hasenhüttl, are leading the race for the 25-year-old. It is claimed that the club has a ‘verbal agreement’ with Hibs officials and would be willing to pay €1.3 million (just over £1 million) to secure his signature this summer. Hibernian, however, have previously rejected bids that did not meet their valuation.
Hibs’ Stance and Youan’s Injury Comeback
Earlier this month, Hibs head coach David Gray expressed his satisfaction in retaining Youan until at least the summer, despite late interest from English clubs in the January window.
The forward, who has three goals and one assist in 13 appearances this season, is currently recovering from a foot injury that has sidelined him since late December. Providing an update on his progress, Gray said on Tuesday:
“He’s trained the last couple of days. I think it’s more likely that he’ll return towards the end of the week, given how long he’s been out. He’s now completed two or three full-contact sessions with the squad, which is a positive step.”
Gray also acknowledged the ongoing speculation surrounding Youan, emphasizing the challenge of improving the player before the summer, as replacing his qualities would be difficult.
Potential International Switch to Côte d’Ivoire
In addition to club interest, Youan has reportedly been approached by the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) regarding a potential switch in international allegiance. Born in France to Ivorian parents, he previously represented France at U18, U19, U20, and U21 levels but has yet to earn a senior cap.
Côte d’Ivoire, managed by former Nantes midfielder Emerse Faé—who hails from the same region as Youan—may look to persuade him to don the Elephants’ jersey in the near future.
