Leeds United Eyeing £34m Striker for “Statement Signing” This Summer
Leeds United could make a significant move in the transfer market by securing a £34 million-rated striker, according to former goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
Leeds Targeting Proven Premier League Goalscorer
Joel Piroe has been in excellent form for Leeds in the Championship this season, netting 15 goals—making him the joint-top scorer in the division. However, with promotion to the Premier League within reach, the club is actively searching for an additional striker.
One of their top targets is Southampton’s Cameron Archer, who is reportedly eager to join Leeds this summer. With the Saints facing almost certain relegation from the top flight, a move could be on the cards.
Meanwhile, Leeds’ owners, 49ers Enterprises, are also monitoring AC Milan’s Tammy Abraham. The former Chelsea striker is currently on loan at AS Roma but is keen on a return to the Premier League.
Abraham, who cost Roma £34 million in 2021, is attracting interest from multiple English clubs, making a deal potentially challenging. However, Robinson believes Leeds should go all out to sign him.
Robinson: Abraham Would Be a “Statement Signing”
Speaking about the potential move, Robinson explained:
*”Joel Piroe has led the line well and scored goals this season, but if you’re looking for a recognized out-and-out No.9, someone like Tammy Abraham would be a great fit.
He’s on loan right now, and his contract is up at the end of the season. If his parent club is willing to let him go, it suggests he has no future there. A signing like that would make a real statement for Leeds because he’s a quality player in an area where the club needs reinforcements.”*
Abraham Could Be the Perfect Addition for Leeds
Although Abraham hasn’t had his best season while on loan at Milan, he has still managed to score eight goals across all competitions, including two in the Champions League. His experience at the highest level suggests he could thrive at Elland Road.
The 27-year-old, once described as a “beast,” has previously impressed in the Premier League, scoring 26 goals in England’s top tier—including 15 in one season for Chelsea during the 2019-20 campaign.
With competition for Abraham’s signature expected to be fierce, securing the English forward won’t be easy. However, if Leeds gain promotion and want to establish themselves in the Premier League rather than risk an immediate drop back to the Championship, landing a proven top-flight striker like Abraham could be a game-changing move.
While Piroe has been outstanding in the Championship, his ability to replicate that form in the Premier League remains uncertain. In contrast, Abraham has already demonstrated his goal-scoring ability at that level, making him an ideal signing to spearhead Leeds’ attack next season.
