Celtic Monitoring Norwich City’s Borja Sainz but Move Not a Priority

Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic are keeping an eye on Norwich City’s Borja Sainz, but a summer move for the Spanish winger is not a top priority.

According to Football Insider, the Bhoys are interested in Sainz but may opt against pursuing him due to their existing attacking options. Despite Kyogo Furuhashi’s recent departure to Rennes, Celtic’s squad already includes wide players like Jota and Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn, which could limit Sainz’s game time at Parkhead.

Celtic’s Transfer Stance on Sainz Revealed

While Sainz is not at the top of Celtic’s summer transfer wishlist, it is unsurprising that the Scottish champions are tracking him. The Spaniard, despite serving a six-match suspension last month, remains the joint-top scorer in the Championship with 15 goals in 29 appearances—matching Leeds United’s Joel Piroe, who has needed 34 games to reach the same tally.

Sainz has been an important asset for Norwich this season, even though he has not scored in the league since November 30th. However, he registered an assist in a 4-2 victory over Stoke City, suggesting he may be regaining his form in the final third.

If the winger rediscovers his scoring touch, Norwich’s push for a play-off spot could strengthen, as they currently sit just four points off the top six ahead of a crucial clash with Blackburn Rovers—who currently occupy the final play-off position.

Norwich Could Be Forced to Sell Sainz This Summer

Sainz’s contract at Carrow Road expires at the end of next season, making the upcoming transfer window Norwich’s best opportunity to cash in. Although the Canaries have opened contract talks, Sainz may be reluctant to extend his stay, particularly given interest from high-profile clubs.

Norwich have struggled for consistency this season, making a Premier League return uncertain. Meanwhile, Serie A contenders Napoli are also reportedly keen on the Spaniard, which could present an enticing alternative for the player.

While Celtic may not prioritise a move for Sainz, his future remains uncertain, and a summer transfer could still be on the cards if Norwich fail to secure a play-off spot.
