Bears fans will erupt with laughter at the latest update in the Aaron Rodgers saga
Oh no. Just no.
I bring you news today that is neither tragic nor heartbreaking — quite the opposite, in fact. It’s a moment worth celebrating, or at least taking a small victory lap. Why? Because Aaron Rodgers got rejected. He gave his all to convince the Minnesota Vikings to let him sabotage another NFL franchise for the next three years, only to be turned down. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Vikings have made it clear to other teams that JJ McCarthy will be their starting quarterback next season. But they’re still keeping their options open for a veteran – just not Rodgers.
It really looks like the Vikings chose JJ McCarthy over Aaron Rodgers.
“I’m told the Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls about their young quarterback, JJ McCarthy,” Pelissero reported. “They’ve made it clear that McCarthy is their guy moving forward. While they’re still exploring adding a veteran through free agency or trade, I’m told Aaron Rodgers is not in the mix. McCarthy enters the offseason as QB1. As for Rodgers, his options now seem to be down to the Steelers and the Giants.”
Ouch. Tough break for Rodgers. Apparently, when you’re 41, coming off an injury, and bring a lot of drama, teams aren’t lining up to sign you. The NFL isn’t what it used to be. Now Rodgers is left choosing between Pittsburgh and New York, and honestly, the choice feels obvious. His unique ability to stay composed in chaotic situations might actually suit him well with the Giants, so that door isn’t completely closed.
It’s a shame, though. The idea of watching Rodgers spend the first six weeks of the season sulking on the Vikings’ bench, then getting a few starts, posting mediocre stats, and dragging the team to an uninspiring 8-win season sounded so entertaining. We were robbed of that spectacle. Watching that happen somewhere far from the NFC North just won’t hit the same.
Let’s just hope this saga doesn’t drag on for weeks and bring with it a string of embarrassing headlines. What a shame that would be.
