Rangers takeover: 49ers ‘already show promise’ after £73m development

Rangers are progressing towards a takeover as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises continue to negotiate a deal.

The club has experienced years of mismanagement and instability, underscored by the departures of John Bennett and James Bisgrove last year, which revealed the depth of the issues at hand. Additionally, the team’s lackluster player trading strategy has resulted in significant financial challenges and difficulties in competing with Celtic.

With the prospective arrival of the US consortium, there is much to be addressed, particularly concerning Barry Ferguson’s future at Ibrox.

49ers expected to invest heavily at Rangers after takeover

Paraag Marathe, the chief of the 49ers, will be expected to spend money at the Gers once the takeover is complete.

Cavenagh and the 49ers’ arrival at Ibrox will see a significant sum being kept aside to invest in the squad.

The Light Blues are 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and have failed to close the gap on multiple occasions.

Ferguson’s team lost 2-0 to Hibernian at home on Saturday (5 April), highlighting the need for reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.

Cavenagh and 49ers bring promise of impressive player-trading model at Ibrox

James Tavernier will be on the chopping block at Ibrox once the Americans take controlling shares at the Glaswegian outfit [TEAMtalk].

The English right-back will have one year left on his contract at the end of the season, and it feels like the right time to part ways with the 33-year-old.

Over the years, the Gers have failed to recoup money on their players, with the likes of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos leaving for free despite catching many eyes during their time at Ibrox.

The US consortium will likely look to change that at Rangers, and they’ve already shown their nous during their time at Leeds United, with the West Yorkshire outfit’s accounts showing a profit of £73million in player trading profits for the 2022/23 season, according to Record Sport.

Last summer, the Championship outfit once again sold some players for big money, with Archie Gray joining Tottenham, Georginio Rutter moving to Brighton and Crysencio Summerville being sold to West Ham United.

The Gers have some impressive talents like Hamza Igamane on their books, who may attract attention from down south at the end of the campaign.

Nico Raskin is another player who has made waves on an international level after starring for Belgium in the recent international break.

Ianis Hagi is out of contract soon, and the Romanian’s departure on a free transfer next summer will be a blow for the Bears.

The Ibrox faithful will hope the 49ers arrive in the coming weeks and put things into place.
