Due to increasing interest from other teams, the Brisbane Broncos officially tabbed a one-year contract extension for halfback Adam Reynolds, seemingly extending his NRL career into his fifteenth season. Reynolds will mark his 300th first-grade appearance on Saturday against the Gold Coast Titans, according to the Daily Telegraph. He is still unsigned until the end of the season, but Brisbane has made him a formal offer.
It’s fitting that Reynolds’ first NRL jumper was given to him by his current coach, Michael Maguire, at South Sydney in 2012. This weekend, he will be there to support the playmaker as he hits the milestone. Adam just moved into second place on the NRL’s all-time point scoring record, marking his 300th game. Reynolds’ long-term future with the Broncos is uncertain since he is one of 14 players whose contracts expire at the end of 2025. Although Brisbane is eager to keep the seasoned playmaker, the team will have to make a number of difficult roster decisions in the coming months due to continuous salary cap pressure.
The fact that representative centers Kotoni Staggs and Selwyn Cobbo, as well as emerging talent Blake Mozer, are reaching the conclusion of their current contracts, further complicates matters. The Broncos’ offer comes when the squad is going through a tough time; they have lost six of their last seven games. The club is still keen to retain Reynolds, whose leadership has been crucial since moving from South Sydney in 2022, despite their recent performance. Maguire and club management will have to make important roster decisions as a result of the team’s on-field difficulties. Reynolds has been a key member of the team, leading the Broncos to a close championship in 2023 before they lost to Penrith in a thrilling grand final.
There won’t be any further talks with anyone unless a settlement can’t be reached in Brisbane,” Reynolds’ agent Steve Gillis told News Corp. It’s not a contest to see who can make the largest offer; it’s not a bidding war. We have spoken with other clubs besides the Tigers. I’ve spoken with a few teams, and they said we might talk if he decides to continue playing. However, we are attempting to reach an agreement with Brisbane.
Brisbane is where Adam hopes to complete his career. We are aiming for that as his children have made their home there. The 33-year-old has drawn interest from a number of teams, including the Wests Tigers, who are still in shock over the imminent departure of youthful playmaker Lachlan Galvin. International Super League teams have reportedly expressed interest as well. Reynolds, however, has stated unequivocally that he want to be a Bronco. Reynolds told Nine News on Tuesday, “I’m really sure I can go around again.”
I don’t currently have any thoughts of retiring. Right now, we’re still negotiating that [deal with the Broncos], but winning football games and playing excellent football are my top priorities. It will take care of itself in the background.
