Celtic Target Towering Midfielder Kalidou Sidibe as Rangers Step Up Move for Brazilian Metinho

Both sides of Glasgow are eyeing reinforcements in midfield as Celtic and Rangers intensify their summer transfer business ahead of the 2025/26 season. Celtic have reportedly set their sights on Guingamp’s Kalidou Sidibe, while Rangers are pushing forward in their pursuit of Brazilian talent Metinho after an initial bid was turned down.

Sidibe, a towering 6ft 7in defensive midfielder, is on the radar of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, who is eager to bolster his options in the middle of the park. The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Ligue 2 side Guingamp, who are willing to cash in on several players this summer after missing promotion. Valued at around £1.7 million, Sidibe fits within Celtic’s transfer budget and offers a powerful, combative presence to complement the likes of Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate.

Sidibe’s experience spans several clubs in France, including spells at Paris FC, Châteauroux, Quevilly Rouen, and Toulouse, where he made appearances in Ligue 1. Known for his tackling, aerial dominance, and tidy distribution, the Malian-eligible midfielder is seen as a reliable squad option rather than a prolific scorer — with just 13 goals in over 200 senior matches.

Meanwhile, over at Ibrox, Rangers are refusing to back down in their attempt to land Metinho from Troyes. The 22-year-old, once a hot prospect at Fluminense, spent last season on loan at FC Basel and impressed with his dynamic displays in the Swiss Super League. Basel have already had a bid rejected, and Rangers are reportedly preparing to respond with an improved offer as they aim to close the gap on their rivals following a disappointing domestic campaign.

Metinho’s parent club, Troyes, who paid £4 million for him in 2021, appear open to selling, despite the Brazilian never making a first-team appearance for them. With prior loan spells at Sparta Rotterdam and Lommel SK, the midfielder has gathered valuable European experience. A move to Rangers would mark a fresh step in his development and provide the club with much-needed energy and creativity in the center of the park.
