Wilson Isidor has discussed his desire to stay and Sunderland’s option-to-buy clause.
Wilson Isidor intends to stay on at Sunderland following the 2024–2025 campaign.
In his first two starts for Régis Le Bris’ senior team against Watford and Derby County, the French forward scored two goals for Sunderland on a season-long loan from Zenit St Petersburg last summer.
The 23-year-old France youth international moved to Wearside from the Russian club with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer. At the end of the current season, the player hopes that provision will be invoked.
Upon being asked if he planned to remain at Sunderland for the upcoming season, Isidor said, “I am on loan, but I have the option to buy.” But no, I want to stick with Sunderland and make the team a part of my past and career.
Having arrived on Wearside last summer, Isidor has already established a connection with Sunderland supporters and is enjoying his stay in the North East. The forward, who was initially made aware of the team through the Netflix documentary series Sunderland Til I Die, has won over fans at the Stadium of Light.
On Sunderland supporters, Isidor continued, “They are amazing.” “I was in Zenit and Zenit has a stadium of about 75,000 and even if the Stadium of Light is a bit smaller than this stadium, you feel it. Everything you do is excellent, including your tackles, smart decisions, and impressive scores.
“I hope winning more significant games would result in more feeling because, like a drug, when you experience something, you want to feel it every day, in every game, every day. I have never had a single shot of adrenaline like I had tonight.
“I watched the Netflix series, so I knew it was a big club; it helps to understand where you put your feet.” As a player, like myself personally, you want to give them back, to make them proud to visit the stadium because you know that those people are passionate about football and have dedicated their entire lives to this team.
