Hearts’ big night attracted a large number of experts, along with two recommendations for the open management position.
Hearts defeated Dinamo Minsk away on Thursday night to earn a much-needed first victory of the season.
The players and interim manager Liam Fox won’t worry that they had to play in Azerbaijan behind closed doors to win it, as Yan Dhanda’s goal in injury time sealed a 2-1 victory in their Europa Conference League opening.
The club is feeling good going into their most recent Premiership test, which is away to Aberdeen. They will be looking to win domestically for the first time this season after stopping a losing streak with a draw at Ross County the previous weekend.
The analysts offered their opinions on the match and Hearts’ current predicament while searching for a permanent head coach to replace Steven Naismith. They also offered two recommendations for the position. Take a peek.
1. Sportsound’s Billy Dodds
“The new coach will bring new ideas to the table. You want to start off strong with that because things can take longer if he doesn’t and finds it difficult to play the way he wants to. He could enter with something new, and then they would bolt. Relegation is not a possibility. They have a big club, so they are more than capable of reaching the top six, but they have work to do. If they gain some momentum, I believe they will be in the top six.”
2. TNT Sports’ Derek McInnes
“Amazing, amazing how the game unfolds. It tells us a lot about a team that scores goals late. They received the prize for displaying a little bit more daring in their final attack. That will seem like everything, and the journey home will be joyful.”
3. TNT Sports’ Ryan McGowan
It’s incredible. It’s just what the club was looking for. Although the game wasn’t very entertaining to watch, a Hearts victory was much required. I hope it gives the season a boost. Fantastic that Dhanda scored.”
4. The Sportssound’s Allan Preston
“This is an excellent outcome for them. Grant delivers a fantastic ball in, and Shankland makes the correct play to go back across goal and find Dhanda. Wonderful stuff.”
5. TNT Sports’ Ally McCoist
“Shankland is capable of operating as a lone striker. I felt that at the Euros, he deserved to have played more minutes. They must gather support and people around him so that he can complete.”
6. ESPN’s Michael Stewart
“They’re going to think creatively and unconventionally, and Rydstrom, the manager of Malmo, is an innovative thinker. These two guys, Knutsen at Bodo Glimt, are worth attempting to get to know.” About the goal, he continued, “That is enormous. For Hearts this season, that is huge.”
