Rangers’ left wing has been a weakness thus far this season, and supporters are hoping that the January transfer window can solve this issue.
Oscar Cortes, a Colombian substitute, and Welsh winger Rabbi Matondo are the club’s two possibilities at the position; the other five players are out of commission.
In addition, Rangers lost out on Ligue 1 team Brest’s primary summer target, Abdallah Sima, due to their failure to advance to the Champions League.
Could Rangers return to Egypt, though, after acting chairman John Gilligan promised additional funding for manager Philippe Clement come January?
Ibrahim Adel is still open to being transferred.
Rangers’ connections to Egyptian striker Ibrahim Adel come to mind when you reflect back to the conclusion of a frenetic summer transfer window.
Rangers were rumoured to be considering a loan-to-buy arrangement for the 23-year-old forward from Pyramids FC following a barnstorming Olympics.
Rangers made their first international acquisition in North Africa this summer when they signed Moroccan attacker Hamza Igamane from local team FAR Rabat.
But it appeared as though Adel was leaving for sunny Spain to join La Liga team Getafe after Rangers’ initial loan-to-buy proposal was rejected.
And then the drama on deadline day started.
The Ibrahim Adel deal fell through in the latter stages when Getafe was unable to pay Pyramids’ demands for a permanent buy option worth $5 million (£3.8 million) for next summer or to give up the $1 million (£766k) loan fee.
Adel was heard shouting, “God is sufficient for me,” as he flew back to Cairo, trampling back to Egypt.
Ibrahim Adel is a player to keep an eye on going into the January transfer window because he is under contract with Pyramids through 2029 and might be available for less than the £4.5 million the Egyptian team was hoping to spend in the summer.
Rangers must come up with a left-wing answer.
Ibrahim Adel has stayed in Egypt since the window closed, and Rangers’ left-wing problems persist.
It is yet unknown whether Matondo or Cortes will be able to make a consistent contribution due to their ailments.
When Sassuolo changed the parameters of an initial loan-to-buy agreement for permanent signing Nedim Bajrami, Rangers also called off a last-minute loan agreement for Southampton’s Sam Edozie.
Rangers will undoubtedly try to recruit a second wide attacker during the winter transfer window, and Clement will have the financial means to do so.
John Gilligan, the acting chairman, stated as much, endorsing the Rangers manager before to the January transfer window opening.
Even though January is still a few months away, we wonder if Rangers still have Ibrahim Adel on their short list given that they are still looking to sign players from other markets.
The Egypt U23 player was a major contributor to the Egyptian team’s fourth-place performance in the Olympics in Paris, where they were defeated 6-0 by rivals from North Africa in the bronze medal match.
