Portugal boss hails Hearts star as ‘incredible’ as Scotland manager left celebrating after ace’s big moment

The Portugal manager spoke highly of the Hearts custodian.

At Hampden, he turned back time, and Hearts goalie Craig Gordon’s most recent Scotland performance has Roberto Martinez in awe.

As Scotland drew 0-0 with the team of the former manager of the Everton, Wigan and Belgian national teams, the veteran made several saves. After losing out on Euro 2024, Gordon took the number one jersey once more, and Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to go past him.

The Hearts star’s admission that his club lacked a spark in the Nations League A1 tie left Martinez speechless. “Their custodian was amazing,” he said. Although we were unable to score, we gave a good performance. Few teams remain unbeaten.

“It is my duty to examine novel ideas. Performances lead to results, and we deserved to win this evening. In these games, it’s risky to believe you have the upper hand and then lose to a counterattack. We were in control and maintained a clean sheet, but we lacked the magic inside the area and the last pass.

Steve Clarke, the head coach of Scotland, was left rejoicing after Gordon made a save late in the game. Late in the game, Portugal threw the kitchen sink at Scotland, and the goalie scampered an almost certain goal out of danger.

“The players grinded out a really good point for us,” he continued. When the opposition has so much possession, the fans may become anxious. However, Craig (Gordon) was there to salvage it when they did present a significant opportunity. I’m celebrating a save for the first time in a long time.
