Rangers told they’ve signed a star with ‘infectious energy’ as he turns Ibrox ‘joy to watch’

This weekend marks Rangers’ return to Scottish Premiership competition.

Following Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Olympiacos on Thursday night, former Livingston and Hibernian midfielder Marvin Bartley showered Connor Barron with praise. In their most recent Europa League match, Philippe Clement’s team earned a point in Greece.

Before Ayoub El Kaabi gave the home team the lead just before the hour, the Gers were tied at 0-0 at the break. Seven minutes later, Cyriel Dessers gave the visitors the equaliser.

Following the game, Bartley, who was Queen of the South’s manager the previous season, said on X: “Rangers played far better there! Dessers should have taken advantage of one of those first-half opportunities, but Clement got the tactics exactly right. Although Raskin was excellent, Barron was the standout performer in my opinion! His contagious energy is making him a pleasure to watch.

In order to strengthen their roster, Rangers acquired the 22-year-old Barron during the most recent transfer window. He has given their midfield section additional depth and competitiveness.

Ten of the 18 appearances the Kintore native has made for the Glasgow team across all competitions have been in the league. He received a four-year contract with Ibrox that expires in June 2028.

After being signed by Aberdeen as a youngster and progressing through their academy, Barron began his career locally with Kintore United. At numerous youth levels, he was a regular for the Dons at that time.

In order to gain experience, the former Scotland youth international was loaned out from Pittodrie as a young player to Brechin City and Kelty Hearts. In 2020, he returned and made his first-team debut.

After playing in 76 games overall and scoring two goals, Barron left the team. After his contract ended, the Rangers were able to take advantage of the situation.

“The location for me”…

Upon joining his present club, he declared: “I am ecstatic. I felt this was the place for me to come as soon as I began speaking with the club. Everything appeared to be in order, and I believe that this is the ideal position for me at this point in my career.

“Winning football games and trophies is highly desired at this club, and I genuinely want to be a part of that.” I made a big decision, but talking to the manager and employees made it easier, and I’m eager to get started immediately.

“We are very happy to have Connor join the club,” Clement stated. He is a young, gifted athlete with the correct mindset who has gained a great deal of experience in both Europe and the Scottish Premiership.”

“It is crucial that young Scottish talents play a big part in the years ahead, and we are delighted to add a talented midfielder in Connor to the ranks at Rangers,” said Nils Koppen, Director of Recruitment.

“We have faced him head-to-head on the pitch in recent years, and we think his diligence and commitment will make him a valuable member of the team.”
