Rangers watch ‘unplayable’ forward net hat-trick as Gers consider transfer loophole

Rangers scouts were present when Kwame Poku scored a hat-trick for Peterborough United, an English team, in League One.

The 23-year-old Ghanaian international winger, who has been playing brilliantly for the Posh this season, is being pursued by a number of teams, including the Gers.

Speculation regarding Kwame Poku’s future has started to grow after the winger impressed Rangers scouts by scoring a treble in the team’s 6-1 thumping of Cambridge United over the weekend.

To stave off competition from many Premier League and English Championship clubs, the Ibrox team will attempt to exploit a transfer loophole.

Scouts for the Rangers observe Kwame Poku Ibrox scouts were present to watch Poku slay in his hat-trick at the Weston Homes Stadium, previously London Road, Rangers News can exclusively disclose.

However, there were other unidentified Championship and Premier League talent scouts in the stands, so Rangers weren’t the only possible suitors.

Poku’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and he is free to negotiate terms with a new team in January, which adds even more intrigue to the scenario.

Given that Poku is only 23 years old and received his training in England, clubs south of the border who wish to sign the winger will need to work out a development fee with Peterborough or face legal action.

But only when players transfer to clubs within their own country are the regulations applicable. Rangers can therefore exploit this cross-border weakness and acquire Poku for a small, discounted price.

As a famously obstinate Peterborough looks to earn a return on the winger, Rangers may try to reach a pre-contract deal with Poku in January and then negotiate a low-cost winter move.

As an alternative, Rangers can agree to a contract with Poku and acquire the gifted winger at the end of the current campaign for a nominal development fee.

With the prospect of a tribunal looming over the swap, Rangers and Aberdeen are now engaged in negotiations on the transfer of Connor Barron due to the same regulations.

Posh acknowledges that it will be “tough” to hold onto the “unplayable” winger. Rangers’ search for a new left-wing reinforcement before the January transfer window is well-documented, and Kwame Poku seems to have drawn attention at Ibrox.

The Ghanaian winger has been playing brilliantly for Peterborough this season since earning his one cap for the nation in March 2021.

Poku’s three goals against Cambridge United raise his season total to ten goals across all competitions, a record that is drawing attention nationwide.

In all competitions, the winger has also contributed seven assists. Posh boss Darren Ferguson has been talking about Kwame Poku’s contract predicament and waxing poetic over the winger, according to the Peterborough Telegraph.

Ferguson said Peterborough had previously sent an offer to Kwame Poku for a new deal after he rejected offers in the summer, calling the forward “unplayable.”

Ferguson, however, acknowledged that it “will be very tough” to persuade Poku to sign a new contract because Peterborough anticipates receiving more offers for the Ghanaian before the January transfer market opens.

“Kwame is simply not playable right now,” Ferguson stated. “Playing against him would be awful for me. “He should give another person an opportunity to earn the player of the month award.

The Kwame Poku Trophy will have to be the new name! The boy is currently unplayable due of his exceptional skill. He is deserving of all the praise and recognition. We had to keep him for the summer because of this. He received offers, and he will continue to receive offers.

We have offered him a new contract in an effort to retain him. The chairman and I are making every effort, but as you can see, it will be quite difficult.

The statistics don’t lie if you watch him. I simply love working with the boy. However, he will acknowledge that yesterday was a great team effort and that it wasn’t just about him.
