Ex-Rangers boss Michael Beale in cryptic ‘loads of snakes’ potshot

If ‘plenty of snakes’ hadn’t emerged from the woodwork, former Rangers head coach Michael Beale has stated that he could have made better decisions throughout his three managerial positions.

The former manager of QPR, Gers, and Sunderland made an appearance on the most recent Inside the Academy program.

Beale, who naturally worked in the youth systems at Chelsea and Liverpool before taking over as Steven Gerrard’s first team coach at Ibrox in 2018, has an unmistakable knack for seeing players at that point in their development.

However, Beale used the opportunity to make a veiled jab at those who interfered with his managerial career, whether it was Sunderland, Rangers, or QPR, near the end of the podcast, which is just under 90 minutes long.

“Around a couple of the moves I’ve had as a manager, I saw loads of snakes and people come out of the woodwork,” claimed the 44-year-old. “I also didn’t enjoy it.

“I felt at ease, and maybe I would have made wiser choices if those folks hadn’t been around, but that’s a story for another time.

“In the end, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have managed QPR, Glasgow Rangers, Sunderland, and 44,000 Championship fans, as well as 52,000 fans.

“I have experience working in the Premier League, Serie A, and more than 60 Europa League and Champions League games in Europe.

“I feel like I’m just starting my career at 44 years old, with 257 games in the system and 77 games as a manager.

“In that sense, I still feel like I’m a young coach.”

During his lengthy experience in youth setups earlier in his career, Beale talked in great depth about the process of guiding young players through the academy system and eventually into the first team at various clubs he worked at.
