The Daily Mail claims that Malcolm Offord and Patrick Stewart will likely improve ties between Rangers and the SPFL.
The newspaper’s website stated on November 28 that Stewart, who is expected to become the new CEO of the Gers on December 16, already knows the majority of the top players in Scottish football.
After spending time with the SFA and SPFL board members during the Euros in Germany, he left a good impression on them.
The Light Blues are expected to strengthen their relationship with the SPFL after challenging the league over corporate governance, with Offord expected to be appointed as chairman in the “coming weeks” [BBC].
Rangers receive a boost in the SPFL following behind-the-scenes Ibrox development. Six Premiership teams, including the Gers, have concerns about the independence of an impartial governance assessment.
The SPFL subsequently called a meeting after pointing out “factual inaccuracies” in the letter that the concerned teams had sent. However, that was the only recent incident in the dispute between the league body and the Ibrox team.
Following the occurrence, an independent assessment of the league’s procedures was ordered. Rangers and five other clubs objected to a draft report that the SPFL produced in January 2024.
However, in recent months, the two sides’ relationship has improved, and it is believed that Stewart’s personal connections would only make it stronger. Offord is also anticipated to contribute to the cause by drawing on his commercial and political experience.
