After Hamza Igamane gave Rangers the lead against Tottenham on Thursday, Steven Thompson was astounded by his poise.
Speaking live on BBC Sportsound on December 12, at 9:06 p.m., Thompson praised Igamane’s finish and James Tavernier’s cross in their Europa League match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Igamane moved away from Pedro Porro to reach the bottom corner on the half-volley after Tavernier drove into the final third and then floated an inch-perfect cross into the Spurs area.
“Igamane had kind of drifted narrow, and it’s a brilliant pick out from James Tavernier to the back post,” Thompson remarked. “I’ll tell you what, the composure on that finish – absolutely sensational.”
At Rangers, Hamza Igamane’s stock is skyrocketing.
Igamane shows Gers supporters his almost limitless potential with each game, and his 79-minute performance against Tottenham at Ibrox was the most obvious to date.
Even without his skilful left foot, it’s doubtful that Danilo or Cyriel Dessers, who took Igamane’s place for the final eleven minutes, could have moved quickly enough to be in position for that goal.
Igamane, 22, had only made two starts prior to the last five games, playing second-fiddle to Dessers. However, in recent weeks, his form has earned him one of the first names on the team sheet.
Igamane has demonstrated that he can be the Gers’ top striker for many years to come, even though he is equally skilled as a line-leading number nine or when playing off the left in combination with Danilo.
Even if Spurs pulled away from his team late in the second half, Clement will be thrilled with the forward’s contribution, and Igamane really must start with the League Cup final on Sunday.
