During the January transfer window, Sunderland is expected to make a few roster changes.
Reports indicate that Nazariy Rusyn will depart Sunderland during the January transfer window, indicating that a “done deal” has been reached. The striker, who joined Sunderland last summer, played a decent amount throughout the 2023–24 season despite the team’s struggles, but he hasn’t had many first-team opportunities this season under new manager Regis Le Bris.
Despite making seven appearances this season, the Ukrainian forward has only played 145 minutes and hasn’t played since making a brief appearance against Derby County at the beginning of October. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that rumours indicate Rusyn will be leaving the Stadium of Light next month.
The departure is essentially confirmed already, according to Dmytro Vienkov, the outlet’s correspondent, and the only question that remains is where Rusyn goes and how long she stays there, according to Zorya Lodonsk on Twitter/X. It is unclear if this will be a permanent transfer or a loan move. It is doubtful that Rusyn’s playing time will increase under Le Bris in the future given the rise of Tommy Watson on the wing, Wilson Isidor’s relative success up front down the middle, and Aaron Connolly’s presence.
Although it is unlikely, injuries might give him another opportunity at Sunderland. Since he hasn’t played a single minute of football for Le Bris this season, Abdoullah Ba’s Sunderland career likewise seems to be coming to an end.
It has also been reported that Milan Aleksic, a recent addition, would be sent out on loan in the new year. Meanwhile, Salis Abdul Samed, another new boy, has not yet played this season due to injury, raising questions about his future.
