Police are urging Sunderland fans for assistance following a tragic accident in Sheffield that has claimed the life of a Sheffield United supporter.
Jordan Hattersley, 36, of Bole Hill, Treeton, passed away last week at Northern General Hospital from injuries sustained after being struck by a car just before the Sheffield United vs. Sunderland match on November 29.
During the inquest opening at Sheffield Coroner’s Court on Wednesday, December 18, Jordan’s family paid heartfelt tributes to the devoted family man.
His wife, Kirsty, expressed gratitude to the hospital’s critical care staff, saying, “You gave us precious time with Jordan and the chance to say our goodbyes. For that, my family and I will be forever grateful.”
Jordan was walking to Bramall Lane with his father and two younger siblings when he was hit by a red Lexus at the Suffolk Road and Granville Road junction, police reported.
Jordan’s father, Richard Hattersley, thanked matchgoers who stopped to help at the scene. “Jordan was passionate about Sheffield United. It was his outlet beyond family. At matches, he was a role model for his brother and sister. We are devastated by his loss,” he said.
Born and raised in Sheffield, Jordan had been a lifelong Blade, holding a season ticket from a young age. He later moved to Rotherham in his teens and worked as a computer engineer for Kerridge Commercial Systems in Tankersley, a career spanning 18 years.
Jordan and Kirsty had been together for 13 years before marrying in Cyprus in June, surrounded by close friends and family. Kirsty reflected on their relationship, saying, “We thought we had time. We should have had time. We were at the height of our relationship, and it’s all been ripped away in a split second.”
The couple shared a six-year-old son, Freddie, who requires significant additional support. Jordan played an active role in Freddie’s care. Kirsty described him as an “all-round good person” who always helped others. She found some solace in donating his organs, knowing he saved other families from similar grief.
“He’s given the gift of life this Christmas,” she said.
Kirsty also extended compassion to the driver involved in the accident, remarking, “It must be awful for him to live knowing he took a life. I feel nothing but pity for him.”
Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision, which occurred at 7:25 pm on November 29. They are particularly interested in any dashcam footage that may assist their investigation.
