Rabbitohs hire new coach, retired NRL utility earns assistant role

At the conclusion of 2024, he retired.

A former player has been appointed assistant coach, and the South Sydney Rabbitohs have chosen to reorganise their Jersey Flegg Cup coaching staff by hiring a new head coach.

After serving as the Manly Sea Eagles’ Jersey Flegg Cup head coach, Scott Kenna, the nephew of former player Charlie Haggett, has been appointed as the Rabbitohs’ new head coach.

He was the Wests Tigers’ Jersey Flegg Cup coach before serving as Wayne Lambkin’s assistant coach.

Yileen Gordon, a former NRL utility who retired at the end of the 2024 season, has also been given assistant coaching responsibilities by the Rabbitohs.

Before joining the Canterbury Bulldogs (2009–10), where he played 34 more games over two seasons, the 37-year-old made his debut with the South Sydney Rabbitohs (2004–08) in 2005.

He played three games for the Penrith Panthers in the 2011 season, which was his final time in the NRL.

Gordon will stay with the Rabbitohs as an assistant coach for their Jersey Flegg Cup squad after serving as a mentor throughout the last several seasons while playing in the NSW Cup competition.

The Jersey Flegg Cup coaching staff also includes strength and conditioning coach Nic Railz and team manager Kane Clark.
