Rangers controversy: Keevins rages over ‘ill-informed accusations’

Hugh Keevins has responded to “ill-informed accusations” that football is “rigged” following Rangers’ controversial loss to Celtic.

Rangers lost badly to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final because, even with VAR in place, they were not given a penalty for a foul on Vaclav Cerny.

After losing the Old Firm on penalties, Philippe Clement’s team claimed that the game should be replayed because of the mistake.

Keevins responded to the accusations made against the game’s integrity after supporters quickly accused the officials of being involved in the altercation.

“It’s terrible if some fans choose to think the game is rigged. According to Keevins, football must rise above unfounded mistrust and uninformed allegations, as reported by the Daily Record on December 22.

“I don’t think I’d waste my money going to watch football if I believed that officials were prepared to compromise their integrity and endanger their careers by manipulating game results to suit themselves.” However, I don’t anticipate that any seats at Ibrox will be empty on Rangers’ first competitive day of the year.

Rangers are perfectly entitled to feel unfairly treated by
There is no escaping it; the mistake was ignominious, and the fact that VAR is still in use and the mistake is being made speaks much about the calibre of refereeing in Scotland and in football in general.

Rangers should have been given a penalty, which would have made the difference in the match and allowed us to sit here and talk about how much the Gers won.

Rangers can, however, be quite proud of their performance in the game, which was significantly better than their performances earlier in the season, but, to be honest, it doesn’t really matter.

The Gers have three more chances to win a trophy after the loss, but an eight-point deficit in the league makes any victory doubtful. The Scottish Cup and Europa League are the only competitions left.

Rangers have every possibility of succeeding in some way if they can continue to play at the same level as they have in recent weeks, even though they will require assistance from the referees who virtually lost them the win at Hampden Park.
