Mark Guidi names ‘Obvious Candidate’ for Rangers job in new Clement sack update

Mark Guidi has stated that Derek McInnes, the manager of Kilmarnock, is the “obvious candidate” to succeed Philippe Clement as Rangers’ pressure mounts.

The 53-year-old Belgian has been frequently linked to a move to Ibrox as pressure mounts on him and the Rangers Supporters Association demands that he be fired.

McInnes is thought to be the best option because he played for the Gers from 1995 to 2000, but it’s questionable if he would leave Rugby Park so quickly.

“Derek McInnes would have to be on the shortlist,” Guidi stated in an interview with the Go Radio Football Show [10 January]. Naturally, the new CEO, who will have a significant influence on the selection of the next management, spent the majority of his professional life in the south.

He may thus have contacts in the South who could be able to provide an idea. Derek McInnes, however, is the clear choice if you’re searching for someone who is an expert in the Scottish game, can work on a tight budget, and can get the most out of players.

Rangers would quickly replace Clement with McInnes.

Given that Clement is still causing annoyance in Glasgow, the Ibrox supporters would adore McInnes as the next manager.

Recent performances have caused the Gers to fall 15 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership, rather than catching up to league leaders Celtic.

Given that supporters have been demanding the manager’s dismissal for the previous few months, this is obviously very unacceptable for the Light Blues at this stage of the league season.

McInnes has enough coaching expertise to guide the Gers to greater heights, having held positions at St Johnston, Bristol City, Aberdeen, and Kilmarnock. However, he would be facing a formidable task.

The squad still has a number of deadweights, like Cyriel Dessers, Rabbi Matondo, and Ridvan Yilmaz, and the financial position is unchanged despite Patrick Stewart taking over as manager at Ibrox.

Given the limited funds available, McInnes may reconsider moving from Rugby Park to Ibrox at this time. Any new manager would need to be supported during the transfer window.
