Rangers are undergoing a comprehensive transformation, not merely a rebuild, as they strive to reclaim their place at the top of Scottish football. The club is leaving no aspect unexamined in its pursuit of success.
While Philippe Clement may or may not be the long-term manager to oversee this transition, real change at the top of the Scottish Premiership will only come with the establishment of a consistently high-quality squad.
One key challenge is securing the right players rather than a lack of funds, with recent developments potentially clearing the way for Rangers to make a permanent move for Vaclav Cerny.
Door Opens for Rangers to Pursue Vaclav Cerny After Sky Sports Reports on Andreas Skov Olsen Transfer
In recent years, Rangers have demonstrated their ability to recruit talented players like Malik Tillman and Abdallah Sima. However, they’ve also missed out on several impactful targets, such as Danilho Doekhi, Joey Veerman, Viktor Gyokeres, and Ivan Toney. Another notable miss was Andreas Skov Olsen, who could have been signed under Steven Gerrard for around £6 million.
The Danish winger, now with Club Brugge, has tallied 79 goals and assists in 124 games, underlining the value he could have brought to Ibrox.
Now 25, Skov Olsen appears poised for a transfer that could indirectly benefit Rangers. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports:
“Andreas Skov Olsen and VfL Wolfsburg have now reached a verbal agreement regarding a transfer in the winter. He can sign a contract until 2029. Negotiations with Club Brugge are expected to take place soon. Price: €10-15m.”
This estimated fee of £8.5 to £12.5 million could have ripple effects for Rangers. Skov Olsen’s arrival at Wolfsburg, where he plays as a left-footed right-winger, could push Vaclav Cerny further down the pecking order, increasing the chances of a permanent move to Ibrox.
Cerny’s Thoughts on a Permanent Move to Rangers
Vaclav Cerny has already addressed the possibility of staying at Rangers but remains focused on the present:
“I know how football works and that it can turn into a positive outcome if the season goes as expected,” said Cerny, who has 12 goals this season.
“I know what the situation is at Rangers and what the possibilities are, but it’s not up to me to comment on that so soon. I just have to give my best on the pitch and help the club achieve success.
“I’m focused on football, family, and life in Glasgow, which is hectic in itself. I wouldn’t want to waste my time thinking about something I can’t control anyway.”
For now, Rangers fans will hope that developments in the Skov Olsen transfer saga could pave the way for Cerny’s permanent addition to the squad.
