Rabbi Matondo has endured a frustrating season on the Rangers bench, with limited opportunities to showcase his talents.
The Welsh winger has made just eight first-team appearances this term, including a standout performance against Ross County in August, where he delivered two goals and two assists to earn the Man of the Match accolade. However, that display proved to be an isolated success.
Rangers have since faced calls to offload Matondo to free up funds for the January transfer window. Rangers News can now exclusively report that the club is prepared to sanction a loan move for the 24-year-old, following Norwich City’s failed attempt to sign him last summer.
Two Serie A clubs, Torino and Lecce, have expressed interest in securing Matondo on loan. The winger has faced criticism from fans this season, with manager Philippe Clement accused of mishandling his role in the squad. Injuries have also plagued Matondo, restricting his availability and relegating him to appearances with the Rangers B team alongside fellow injury-prone teammate Oscar Cortes.
A six-month loan deal is reportedly appealing to both Rangers and Matondo, who is eager for regular first-team football. Additionally, the club is likely to include an option for a permanent transfer in the agreement, with a future fee expected to be around £2 million.
Interest in Matondo has also come from English Championship sides, including Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers. Blackburn manager John Eustace previously acknowledged Matondo as a potential target, although he suggested he was one of many players being monitored.
