Manchester United are gearing up for a Europa League showdown against Rangers, with manager Ruben Amorim under mounting pressure. Despite only taking charge in November, Amorim has already labeled this squad as “the worst Red Devils team in history.”

Rangers, known for their strong performances in European competitions, aim to rise to the occasion at Old Trafford. Manager Philippe Clement has challenged his youthful squad to achieve “something special” at the iconic Theatre of Dreams.

Manchester United Face Rangers Without Costly Attacker

Adding to United’s challenges, the team will face Rangers without one of their priciest signings. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United are set to offload their £82 million winger, Antony.

Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022, during Erik ten Hag’s tenure, for a staggering fee that symbolizes many of the club’s missteps in recent years. After an underwhelming spell at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old Brazilian is now heading to Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the season, as approved by Amorim.

Although Antony has featured in four of United’s six Europa League matches this campaign, he wasn’t expected to start against Rangers. His departure further highlights the difficulties Amorim faces as he attempts to rebuild a struggling squad.

Former Rangers Loanee Leading the Line for United

Rangers, meanwhile, will encounter a Manchester United team languishing in 13th place in the Premier League—a stark reflection of their ongoing struggles. While Amorim works to establish his vision for the Red Devils, Clement will look to exploit their vulnerability.

One of United’s few bright spots this season has been former Rangers loanee Amad Diallo. The 22-year-old Ivorian has emerged as a key player for United, with nine goals to his name this season, including a hat-trick against Southampton.

Rangers will need to pay close attention to Diallo, who has shown a knack for delivering in big moments, including a Europa League double against PAOK earlier in the group stages. His performance could be pivotal in Thursday’s clash.

A Game of High Stakes

As Manchester United grapple with internal challenges and external expectations, the stage is set for a high-stakes encounter. Rangers, buoyed by their underdog spirit, will be eager to capitalize on United’s troubles and make their mark in the competition. Meanwhile, Amorim’s side will look to steady the ship and deliver a performance that reassures their fans of a brighter future.
