Brady’s recent success makes him a possible choice for Clarke.
According to sources in the United States, American custodian Chris Brady has surfaced as a possible possibility for the Scotland national team.
Brady, a 20-year-old 6′ 3″ goalie who presently plays for the Chicago Fire in the Major League Soccer (MLS), has a contract with the Michigan team through December 2026, but after finishing as their number one player the previous season, he is allegedly eager to start talks for a better deal.
Clubs in the UK are keeping an eye on him, particularly now that he is eligible to play for Scotland. Brady has played for the United States at the under-23 level, but according to American media, the Scottish Football Association and head coach Steve Clarke are aware of his eligibility and have contacted the Illinois native.
Craig Gordon of Hearts, who turned 42 last month and is approaching the last six months of his Tynecastle deal, is currently Scotland’s first-choice custodian. After Angus Gunn sustained an injury in the autumn that prevented him from playing most of Scotland’s Nations League campaign, Gordon was able to regain the gloves.
Additionally, Gunn’s contract with Norwich City, his English Championship team, expires in the summer. The 28-year-old was Scotland’s goalie at the European Championship last summer after switching allegiance from England to Scotland two years ago. Even if his future is uncertain, Norwich is anticipated to begin contract negotiations soon.
“I think it’s fair to say,” Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup responded when asked if talks will take place following the January transfer window. He’s a good goalie, in my opinion, and we always want a good goalie.
“It’s also reasonable to acknowledge that his contract expires this summer and that other teams besides ours may be interested. We must determine the optimal circumstance. We would like to meet with him and his operatives. I am aware that Ben, the sporting director, is currently doing that.
“Just saying, ‘Okay, here is a new contract,’ isn’t always enough. Let’s go out and train after you sign it. There are instances when more thought goes into making larger judgements. All of the players in the building operate in the same manner. As usual, I’m delighted to provide any updates as soon as they become available.
However, it should come as no surprise that Scotland is looking more widely than the UK in their quest for a new custodian. Gordon is getting older, therefore the team below Gunn is made out of Dundee No. 2 Jon McCracken (24), Rangers backup Liam Kelly (29), Hearts deputy Zander Clark (32) and Kilmarnock No. 1 Robby McCrorie (26).
