As the saying goes, class is permanent. The £6 million-rated Leeds United target, Dor Turgeman, has rediscovered his scoring touch, with a weekend brace bringing an emphatic end to a patch of poor form.
At Elland Road, attacking depth isn’t a pressing concern at the moment. Daniel Farke had the luxury of introducing Largie Ramazani off the bench during Leeds’ clash with Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday. Ramazani’s electrifying cameo, which included a goal and an assist, transformed a narrow 1-0 lead into a commanding 3-0 victory, with a bit of help from Ao Tanaka’s clever play.
However, with uncertainties surrounding Manor Solomon’s future after his loan spell, coupled with the potential summer departures of Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt, Leeds appear to be preparing for a significant overhaul of their attacking lineup. Reports link them with Real Salt Lake’s rising star Diego Luna, Swiss league standout Alvyn Sanches, and another intriguing name—Dor Turgeman.
Dor Turgeman Back in Form to Justify Leeds Links
Leeds’ interest in Turgeman first surfaced in mid-December, with the 21-year-old Maccabi Tel Aviv striker valued at £6 million. However, a five-game goal drought placed him under scrutiny. Leeds’ pursuit of Aston Villa’s Emi Buendia now takes priority, suggesting that Turgeman may be revisited as a summer target.
Capable of playing centrally or on the left, Turgeman could provide a solution to the potential departures of both Bamford and Solomon. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s famous ketchup bottle analogy—once the goals start, they keep flowing—suits Turgeman perfectly. After breaking his scoring drought with a goal off the bench in Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 5-1 thrashing of FC Ashdod, he hasn’t looked back. Turgeman has since scored four goals in three games, including a brace in a 4-1 win over Maccabi Netanya.
Though he has room to grow in consistency, Turgeman’s potential is evident. His tally of 13 goals in 26 matches across all competitions reflects a solid goal-per-game ratio.
Turgeman Relishes Leading Role at Maccabi Tel Aviv
“It’s a privilege to be the starting striker for Maccabi Tel Aviv,” Turgeman shared, showing humility when he passed up a hat-trick opportunity to allow struggling teammate Weslley Palati to take a penalty. “You have to prove yourself and keep scoring. I’m here to give my best on the pitch.”
Reports from Israel suggest that while Turgeman dreams of playing in Spain, Maccabi Tel Aviv might lower their asking price to £4 million in the summer. Currently valued at £6 million, his club is reluctant to sell during a title race. A summer move could work to Leeds’ advantage financially.
Maccabi Tel Aviv coach Zarko Lazetic praised Turgeman, saying, “He has become a beast on the field. He is excellent in pressing and scores goals. He’s in fantastic form.” Such traits are sure to appeal to Daniel Farke as Leeds United consider their next attacking addition.
