Leeds United are in a strong position to secure a deal for Cameron Archer after Southampton’s latest transfer activity.
According to Fabrizio Romano (2 February), the Saints have agreed a fee with Royal Antwerp for the signing of Victor Udoh, potentially paving the way for Archer to depart St Mary’s. The 23-year-old forward was notably absent from Ivan Juric’s squad during Southampton’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Ipswich on 1 February, fueling speculation about his future.
With the transfer deadline looming on 3 February, Leeds are preparing a fresh £15 million bid for the England Under-21 international after their initial offer was rejected, as reported by TEAMtalk. Manager Daniel Farke is eager to strengthen his attacking options to boost the club’s promotion push.
Archer Could Be the Key to Leeds’ Promotion Ambitions
Leeds extended their lead over third-placed Burnley to five points following an emphatic 7-0 win against Cardiff City on Saturday. However, given the unpredictable nature of the Championship, maintaining that gap won’t be easy, and the threat of slipping into the playoff spots remains a concern.
Securing Archer’s signature could provide the attacking firepower needed to cement an automatic promotion spot. The young striker showcased his potential during a loan spell with Middlesbrough in the 2022/23 season, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in the Championship.
