Partick Thistle Dismiss Manager Kris Doolan Following 3-0 Defeat to Raith
Partick Thistle have parted ways with manager Kris Doolan, the club confirmed, following their 3-0 loss to Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park.
The Jags board stated that the decision was not made lightly, but with the team currently fourth in the Scottish Championship and at risk of dropping out of the promotion play-off spots, they felt a change was necessary.
Thistle are now just six points ahead of Raith Rovers, who sit fifth in the table, and have managed only one win in their last five matches.
Doolan’s Tenure and Partick Thistle’s Struggles
Doolan took charge in spring 2023 and came close to securing Premiership promotion, losing the play-off final to Ross County on penalties. Last season, Thistle suffered another heartbreaking exit, losing to Raith in the semi-finals.
Despite his legendary status at the club—having scored 121 goals in 401 appearances—Doolan and his assistant manager Paul McDonald were dismissed following board-level discussions on Monday.
Club Statement and Interim Management
Chairman Richard Beastall acknowledged the difficult decision, but reaffirmed Doolan’s status as a club legend:
“This was not an easy choice. When Kris left as a player in 2019, it was said that ‘He is, and always will be, a legend at Partick Thistle Football Club.’ That remains true today.”
Brian Graham and Mark Wilson have been appointed caretaker managers, with their first game in charge set for this weekend against Airdrieonians.
Financial Cuts and Squad Changes
Thistle recently announced a 20% cut to their playing budget as part of a financial restructuring, and saw key defender Harry Milne depart for Hearts on transfer deadline day.
Doolan’s departure signals a major shift at Firhill, as the club looks to stabilize and push for promotion in the latter half of the season.
