Hibernian in Talks to Extend Jordan Smith’s Contract
Hibernian have begun negotiations with goalkeeper Jordan Smith over a new contract in recognition of his outstanding performances, sources have informed Football Insider.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper, who arrived at Easter Road on a free transfer last summer, has been a key figure for Hibs since breaking into the starting lineup in November. His contributions have played a significant role in the club’s rise up the Scottish Premiership table and their progress to the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
Smith Set for Contract Extension
Smith took over from on-loan goalkeeper Josef Bursik in November and has since been an ever-present figure, playing the full 90 minutes in all league and cup matches.
A product of Nottingham Forest’s youth academy, he has made 17 starts in all competitions this season, conceding 17 goals while recording six clean sheets. Having joined Hibs after departing Stockport in the summer of 2024, Smith is already in line for a contract extension despite his current deal running until June 2026.
The left-footed keeper brings valuable experience, having played in the English Championship and featured for Mansfield Town in League Two.
Hibs Eyeing European Qualification
Hibernian currently occupy fifth place in the Scottish Premiership, with a fourth-place finish securing a spot in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers for next season.
David Gray’s side bolstered their European ambitions with a crucial 2-1 victory over Celtic on Saturday, February 22. They remain unbeaten in all competitions since their 3-0 defeat at Parkhead in early December.
However, contract negotiations extend beyond Smith, as the club faces uncertainty over key defender Rocky Bushiri, who is set to leave on a free transfer in the summer unless a new deal is agreed.
