Swedish top-flight star dreams of Rangers transfer, admits his ‘whole family’ are huge fans

Robbie Ure admits he will always dream of making a return to Rangers after making a tremendous start for his new club.

The 21-year-old striker was a product of the Rangers academy but only made two appearances for the first-team during the 2022/23 season.

Ure was offered a new Rangers contract, but he decided to reject it and seek regular football elsewhere – namely at RSCA Futures.

RSCA Futures is the academy team of Belgian giants Anderlecht, with Ure scoring 12 goals in 38 appearances across two years.

He only made one first-team appearance for Anderlecht before making a £630k switch to Allsvenskan outfit IK Sirius Fotboll in March this year.

Ure provided two assists on his Sirius debut, with manager Andreas Engelmark praising the youngster as a ‘classic nine’.

Robbie Ure ‘dreams’ of Rangers return

But while Ure’s journey in Sweden has only just begun, he has been quoted by freelance journalist Mark Walker saying that he still eyes a return to Rangers one day.

Ure said: “It feels like a long time ago now, but it was a dream for me, growing up as a Rangers supporter.

“It was great to start my journey there and be there for so long, but I needed to take another step, even though it was a very good time there. I was part of a huge football club, and I enjoyed it.

“Of course I dream about going back one day. It would be something that would be very nice for me and for my family, but I’m not focusing on that right now.

“But my whole family are Rangers fans. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

Ure explains move to IK Sirius Fotboll

Ure explained his unique move to Sweden, feeling it was the right time for him to get out of Anderlecht’s academy team and play senior football regularly.

And the Glaswegian has revealed that the switch to Scandinavia was inspired by a current Cardiff City star, who earned a move to the EFL Championship off the back of playing for Sirius.

He continued: “Every player’s journey is different. I wanted to take the next step in my career. At Anderlecht, I played in the second division in Belgium with their B side, and I felt ready for a move up.

“Sirius was an attractive move for me in terms of how they develop players. Yousef Salech came here, did well and then moved on to Cardiff City, which was also something I was thinking about. I also wanted to play in a good league and at a good club, and get minutes here, as I need to play at my age.

“I have to admit that I didn’t know much about the Swedish league. but I’m learning all the time and now I’ve played a match. There’s no better way to get to know a league than to play matches. I think there are a lot of teams with quality here, so I’m happy to be here.

“Everyone has different journeys. There are a lot of Scots who play abroad and do well, so every player’s journey is different. Every game is a new opportunity.

“I got to try out senior football for the first time in Belgium, so it was very good. I think I adapted to it quickly and I felt good in Belgium. But when I got the chance to come here, I didn’t have to think too long.”
