Celtic Contract Twist Opens Door for Summer Parkhead Exit
Celtic’s renewed push to get Greg Taylor to sign a new contract could mark the end of Jeffrey Schlupp’s brief spell at the club.
The Ghanaian international joined on loan from Crystal Palace on the January transfer deadline day, brought in to provide experience and cover on the left flank. Since arriving, he’s featured regularly, including a standout performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League at the Allianz Arena.
But with Celtic re-engaging in talks with Taylor for a third time—after two earlier rejections, the latest coming just before Schlupp’s arrival—it casts doubt on whether Schlupp has a long-term future in Glasgow.
Brendan Rodgers is reportedly pushing hard to keep Taylor, who he views as a central figure in the squad going forward, even with Kieran Tierney’s return on the horizon. There’s been no indication the club intends to make Schlupp’s move permanent, and their renewed interest in tying down Taylor suggests that’s unlikely to change.
Whether or not Taylor agrees to the new contract, this could be a clear sign that Rodgers is planning beyond Schlupp. His loan spell might ultimately be seen as a short-term fix during a transitional phase at left-back, but with developments around Taylor and Tierney, the chances of Schlupp remaining at Celtic beyond the summer seem slim.
