Outside the Box’: How the Tassie Devils Could Lure Nick Daicos
In a bold and imaginative suggestion, sports journalist Sam McClure has floated the idea of AFL’s newest club, the Tasmanian Devils, making a play for Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos.
Despite being contracted with the Magpies until the end of 2029, Daicos left the door slightly ajar in a recent interview, saying he would “never rule anything out” regarding a future move to Tasmania.
Speaking on Wide World of Sports, McClure emphasized that the 21-year-old Daicos should be Tasmania’s top priority as they prepare to enter the AFL. He urged the club’s recruitment team — particularly Derek Hine, a former Collingwood list manager — to “think outside the box” to land such a marquee player.
While specifics on the recruitment strategy were not disclosed, McClure’s comments stirred speculation about how the Devils might structure an irresistible offer in the future.
