The 2024 Hurricanes Under-18 development camp will begin next month, and the next wave of rugby talent from around the region has been picked for it.
The camp is held at the New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS) in Trentham from October 8 to 12, and this year it will be attended by 37 players. The picked players represent 17 schools and one club from the Hurricanes region.
Head coach of the Hurricanes’ Under-18 team and manager of recruitment and development, Darren Larsen, expressed his excitement about the gifted bunch. “Seeing the increasing talent in the area is incredibly encouraging. Selecting this group was a difficult task because there were over 300 nominations from athletes participating in our region’s contests. With eighteen players chosen for the New Zealand representative teams, our region’s future appears bright.
Participants will concentrate on fundamental rugby skills over the entire camp, such as game performance, physical fitness, mental toughness, nutrition education, and the Hurricanes Pathway.
On Friday, October 11, at 12:30 PM at NZCIS, there will be an entertaining encounter versus the Crusaders U18 team to round up the camp.
Other development news: the 2024 New Zealand Schools, New Zealand Barbarian Under 18, and New Zealand Māori Under 18 Ngā Whatukura Boys teams have recruited 18 players from the Hurricanes zone. In recognition of his outstanding work in the development area, Darren Larsen, the recruitment and development manager for the Hurricanes, has been chosen to lead the Barbarians.
