Leicester City team news v Walsall as Odsonne Edouard decision made amid 10 changes

Leicester City’s lineup for the Carabao Cup third round at the Poundland Bescot Stadium, where striker Odsonne Edouard will make his team debut.

With Steve Cooper making ten changes to the squad for the match against Walsall, Odsonne Edouard will start for Leicester City for the first time.

Day-of-deadline signing Edouard now has the opportunity to start at the front of the line after making his debut on Saturday in the 1-1 draw with Everton as a replacement for Jamie Vardy. He plays in a much-changed City side.

Caleb Okoli, the lone man still on the squad, plays centre defence with Conor Coady, an England international starting for the first time this year. Jannik Vestergaard, one of the squad’s standout players from the previous season, will therefore not be playing for the team again. He hasn’t appeared since the second week of the season.

Danny Ward, the goalkeeper, and Luke Thomas and Ricardo Pereira, the full backs, who all started the previous round, enter the lineup. Although Ricardo’s absence has received a lot of attention, Cooper claims to think highly of the Portuguese player and has reinstated him as captain, just as he did against Tranmere.

Boubakary Soumare starts in midfield for the first time since the relegation playoff game in May 2023. Alongside him plays Hamza Choudhury.

Behind Edouard, at position number 10, is Facundo Buonanotte. Abdul Fatawu and Bobby De Cordova-Reid will provide coverage from a distance. Both of the wingers are trying to score their first goals of the year.

City; Ricardo, Coady, Okoli, Thomas; Choudhury, Soumare; Fatawu, Buonanotte, De Cordova-Reid; Edouard are the members of the City (4-2-3-1) team. Subs: El Khannouss, McAteer, Ayew, Alves, Justin, Faes, Skipp, Golding, and Iversen.
