This morning, the Rangers B squad takes on Huddersfield Town, and there’s been an unexpected addition to the starting lineup.
At the Rangers Training Centre, the Ibrox second string will play an XI from the League One team.
In addition to a handful of first-team players and academy standouts, Rangers have room in the lineup for a trailist who will get the chance to impress the young Gers personnel who will be watching.
Rangers B chance for a trialist against Huddersfield
The manager of Rangers B squad, David McCallum, will be hoping to keep up the good work after his team defeated Fraserburgh 5-0 in the SPFL Trust Trophy last time out.
But the coach has made some notable decisions in the Rangers B team for the battle at Auchenhowie this morning.
Alfie Halliwell replaces Mason Munn, and Clinton Nsiala stays at the centre of the Rangers defensive.
Huge things are anticipated of the AC Milan summer acquisition, but Nsiala is the only new outfield player who hasn’t played for the Rangers yet.
An unidentified trialist will stand up alongside the French defender in the backline, a move that has some Gers supporters scratching their heads.
Adam Devine, an academy graduate who hasn’t been in a Rangers first-team game since June, begins at right back.
The Rangers main team is allegedly in talks with Romanian international Ianis Hagi, although he was called up to the B team this morning.
Additionally, Alex Lowry, who is still out of favour under Philippe Clement, has no place.
Ianis Hagi and Clinton Nsiala are still on reserve.
Ibrox supporters will be closely watching the Rangers B team’s performance this morning against Huddersfield.
The additions of Clinton Nsiala and Ianis Hagi in particular are expected to draw the attentions of supporters with the situations around both players polarising the support.
Nsiala is being made to wait for his Rangers debut whilst Hagi continues to be locked out after failing to arrange an exit from the club this summer.
While some Gers supporters are excited to see Nsiala play, others are still loudly criticising Philippe Clement for his handling of Ianis Hagi.
The Belgian manager, who claims that Hagi was just one game away from initiating an automatic salary hike, has emphasised that the choice to bench the Romanian was not just his.
However, it’s evident that Clement does not, at least not yet, consider the Romanian international to be a member of his team.
At the end of August, Clement stated, “We spoke about that months ago, really openly with him and his agent also.”
“That we don’t see him to become the next No.10 for Rangers for the next couple of years, so to look out for other opportunities so that story stays the same. You have this issue with Bajrami in the building, for sure.
“Those things will be seen in the future. I won’t say these things at this time.
