A shocking revelation regarding the former Hibs manager has been made by the Hearts management.
An old buddy of the former Hibs manager believes he would consider the Hearts opening as a chance.
Neil Lennon, who managed Easter Road from 2016 to 2019 before being fired by Rapid Bucharest earlier this season, isn’t even closely associated with the Gorgie head coach position that opened up following Steven Naismith’s dismissal. Hearts sit bottom of the Premiership amid an eight-game losing skid.
During his tenure as Hibs’ and Celtic’s manager, Lennon caused division in Hearts matches. During his first management game at Parkhead, a heated altercation with the Hoops led to a fan going too far and attacking him on the field.
During a scoreless Edinburgh derby, he was also struck with a coin after celebrating a goal that the home team had been denied. But the majority of supporters just weren’t into his aggressive playmaking in the middle of the pitch or his move to the dugout.
If he were to be selected, it would probably not be a popular decision, but John Hartson, a former teammate, believes he could look past Hibs’ affiliation and view Hearts as a path back to the SPFL, where he hasn’t been since leaving Celtic in 2021.
“I don’t think that would bother him too much,” he said on Go Radio. He has a quite thick skin. He got Hibs promoted from the Championship to the Premiership, so I know he did a great job there.
“Listen, I doubt that the supporters of the Hibs would approve. Ultimately, though, I doubt Neil would cite his management experience at Hibs as a reason if he were to accept the job offer. I’m not sure how he would think exactly, but I believe he would see it as a chance to rejoin Scotland’s top club and continue his career in football. To be honest with you, I don’t think it would turn him off.”
